Waynflete Infants' School Curriculum

Curriculum

We pride ourselves in ensuring that we provide opportunities for all children in school to achieve to their best ability, irrespective of age, gender, culture, race, religion, or social demographic.

The school uses the Read, Write Inc programme which teaches children phonetic sounds which they then blend to read words.

We use Numicon as as practical resource to support early number skills in Foundation Stage and into Year 1. By Year 2 the skills are normally embedded but this can be used as a support strategy.

The foundation subjects taught in school provide a broad and balanced curriculum which prepares children for life in modern Britain. The Year Group Class Pages have a curriculum map for each topic.

INTENT

As an EYFS and KS1 school, we aim to provide a rich, playful and inspiring curriculum that establishes strong foundations in knowledge, skills and attitudes to learning. We use Kapow Primary across all foundation subjects, Get Set 4 PE for Physical Education, and the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE) scheme for Computing. Together, these ensure our youngest learners develop curiosity, confidence and a lifelong love of learning.

IMPLEMENTATION

We implement our curriculum through purposeful, well-sequenced and developmentally appropriate teaching and learning experiences.

Kapow Primary provides clear structure, expert-designed lesson sequences and engaging activities tailored to young children.

Get Set 4 PE supports safe, inclusive and high-quality physical development.

The NCCE scheme introduces computing through simple, structured experiences that develop early digital literacy.

IMPACT

Across all foundation subjects, children demonstrate:

– Strong early progress towards EYFS goals and KS1 expectations.

– Growing confidence, resilience and independence.

– Positive relationships built on friendship, respect and good manners.

– Curiosity, creativity and pride in their learning.

Ultimately, children leave KS1 with strong foundations in knowledge, attitudes and personal values, fully ready for the next stage of their education.
