Sustainability
At Waynflete Infants’ School, we are committed to nurturing a love and respect for the natural world. Through everyday actions and learning experiences, we encourage our children, staff, and families to care for the environment. From recycling and reducing waste to growing plants and saving energy, we believe that small steps lead to big changes. Together, we’re building a greener, healthier future—one little footprint at a time.
Here are some ideas that you can do to reduce your carbon footprint and support sustainability at home:
Saving energy
You and your child can:
- turn off the lights when you leave a room
- put on extra clothes instead of turning the heating on
- switch off or unplug electrical items when you’re not using them
- walk, cycle or use public transport, instead of taking the car when possible
- take shorter showers and turn off the tap when brushing teeth
Lifestyle changes
You and your child can:
- reduce waste by recycling and donating old toys
- try to avoid single-use plastic
- buy secondhand clothes and items
- eat more plant-based food and less meat
- use products and companies that are doing good things for the environment
Connect with others
You and your child can:
- help with community litter picking with the Brackley Wombles
- plant trees and flowers to help clean the air
- share what you’ve learned to inspire others to help
If your child is worried about the environment, acknowledge their fears but help them to put it into perspective. Talk about:
- what is true right now rather than what might happen in the future
- if something is going to happen, it is a long way in the future
- how lots of people are working hard to find solutions before then
- how as well as bad news, there is also positive climate news
Explain to them that although there are things we can be doing, it is not their problem to solve alone. Explain to them that scientists, engineers and governments all over the world are working to save the planet.
